Load Tracking Waterfall Logic
Tracking is attempted in the following order:
- Telematics (ELD / Integration)
- Trucker Tools Mobile App
A Driver Phone Number is required on the Load Track to initiate Mobile App Tracking - Text to Track (SMS message)
A Driver Phone Number is required on the Load Track to initiate Text to Track
The system will automatically move to the next option if the previous method is not available.
Step 1: Telematics Tracking
If the MC number on the load has an active telematics integration with Trucker Tools, the system will attempt to track the load using the carrier’s ELD / telematics provider.
The system begins requesting location updates 12 hours before pickup.
If a location update is not received 2 hours before pickup, the system will prompt the driver to begin tracking using the Trucker Tools mobile app.
Step 2: Mobile App Tracking
If telematics tracking is not available, the system will use Trucker Tools App tracking. (A valid Driver Phone Number is required on the Load Track to initiate Mobile App Tracking)
Drivers will receive a tracking link by SMS 24 hours before pickup prompting them to begin tracking in the app.
Step 3: Text to Track
Text to Track messages will begin 1 hour after the scheduled pickup time if the driver has not started tracking through the ELD or the mobile app.
After that, messages will continue to send every 2 hours while the load is in transit.
(A valid Driver Phone Number is required on the Load Track to initiate Text to Track)
Text to Track allows drivers to share location updates through a simple SMS link, without needing to download the app. (This would be a ONE time location update).
Once the pickup time has passed, the system will send Text to Track reminders every 2 hours until:
- The driver begins tracking in the mobile app
- A telematics location ping is received
- 1 hour after the delivery time
The same logic applies to tracking interruptions. Once a load is marked as Tracking Interrupted, a message will be sent 1 hour later. If tracking is still not restored, the message will continue to be sent at 2-hour intervals until tracking resumes correctly.
Note
The Text to Track feature is an automated approach. The pings received from T2T will show in the Load Tracking portal and your TMS like normal.
